THE SOOTHESAYER INTERNET October 2005Hurricanes Katrina and Rita comprise the greatest natural catastrophes in our history. This is part of a cycle I have referred to in previous newsletters (regarding Uranus in Pisces in mutual reception with Neptune in Aquarius) of more frequent storms and increasingly extreme weather events. However, the magnitude of these storms is thought by many scientists to be related to global warming, created by human civilization’s use of fossil fuels. It is time for us to wake up to the need to end our dependency on oil and gas and focus on the development of alternative and renewable energy sources. If we choose to remain in a collective "coma" the price will be incredibly high. There are two eclipses this month: a solar eclipse at 10 degrees of Libra on the 3rd and a lunar eclipse at 24 degrees Aries on the 17th. In addition, Mars goes retrograde on the 1st until it goes direct on Dec. 10th when it is opposite Jupiter and square Saturn. There will be some serious hits to the stock market with small rallies in between, hitting a bottom between the 21st and the 24th as retrograde Mars opposes Mercury. In addition, between the 17th and the 24th, Mercury is square Neptune and Jupiter is at a critical 29 degrees of Libra. This translates into another significant weather event. The retrograde Mars in Taurus (construction and real estate) will significantly delay the plans to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area due to the government’s internal conflicts about how to raise the money. Our gigantic budget deficits are growing every day we remain in Iraq and the richest 5% of the population continues to enjoy huge tax breaks. Politics: As predicted in previous newsletters, scandals proliferate in the Bush administration and with the Republican majority leaders in both houses of Congress. The eclipse on the 17th is conjunct Pres. Bush’s Midheaven, dragging more corruption out into the open. Look for something to come out between the 17th and the 18th, while Mercury is square Neptune. The worst is yet to come as Mars, Jupiter and Neptune will form a T-square in Jan. of 06. Pres. Bush will be presenting another nominee for the Supreme Court. This has been somewhat easier for him as Jupiter has been transiting in Libra, the sign of law and justice. On the 27th, Jupiter enters the sign of Scorpio for a year and a month and will run into conflicts with Mars, Saturn and Neptune. This points to a more arduous process ahead. Foreign Relations: October is another a bad month for military conflicts. The Bush administration is going to become more aggressive toward Iran and Syria and it will get worse as Mars, Jupiter and Saturn collide in December. In Iraq, the objective to get the Iraqis to govern and police themselves will be increasingly difficult and the war may escalate. Wars do not tend to go well when Mars (the God of War) goes retrograde. This same Mars retrogrades on the Sun in the chart of Israel, highlighting U.S. policy to protect this country at almost any cost. There are issues involving India and Pakistan and Turkey, and their relationship with Iran. Iranian nuclear policies raise hackles in the U.S.A. but other nations desperately need their oil. The Economy: There are two "economies". There are financial markets in which the wealthiest individuals in the country both manipulate and participate. Then there is everybody else’s economy in which skyrocketing oil and gas prices, out-of sight health insurance costs, rising property taxes and jobs lost to outsourcing are driving families to the brink of financial disaster. Declaring bankruptcy and absolving their historically high debts is now almost out of the question due to the new bankruptcy legislation. Pensions have been either downsized or lost entirely to those whose corporations have been allowed to "dip" into the supposedly sacred retirement funds. The middle class, the heart of our democracy and successful economy, is an endangered species! We are in a bull market in gold that has been under discussion in this newsletter for some time. As Jupiter enters Scorpio on the 27th of this month and Venus enters Capricorn, in November through early March because it retrogrades, I think gold will go well over $500. Big positions are being taken by Russia, China, and other nations. Big players will be getting into the gold stocks as well as coins and bullion. All of you that have taken my advice on this subject will be happy investors! This month will experience extreme fluctuations in the stock market and the gold market, so hang on to your hat and ride it out. The real estate market will slow down as Mars retrogrades in Taurus. This is not a good time to put your house on the market. It is a good period to do repairs and renovations you intended to do earlier, but had run into delays. A better time to sell property will be when Mars transits the sign of Cancer between April 15th and June 3rd. Inflation will increase and the government is likely to print more money to keep up with it. This is bad policy but the powers-that-be are desperate to cover up all of the policies that are leading us into a depression (that I have consistently predicted will begin the end of 2007, early 2008). Alan Greenspan’s recent speech regarding "flexibility in the economy" was an attempt to justify a derivatives market in trillions of dollars. These are components of a high- risk roulette wheel economy that is destined to blow up in a couple of years. He will be retiring in January and I genuinely feel sorry for the person who takes over his job. Weather and Travel: I look for negative weather conditions between the 4th and the 5th (Mercury inconjunct Mars). Mercury is square Neptune and opposed Mars from the 15th through the 23rd, so you may not want to travel at that time. I do not think we will have the severe catastrophes this month that were suffered the last two months. Health & Medicine: Get your flu shots now. I do not see particularly negative conditions this month, but planetary conflicts with respect to health risks will be prominent in November through January. Moderation is the key. Moderate but consistent exercise, moderate diet, etc. is what Saturn likes and he rules discipline and long-term results. Jupiter in Libra helps us enjoy the outdoors and increases the likelihood of socializing with our friends and neighbors. This is a good month for all of us to cooperate and work together to realize the goals we have in common. Warmth and fellowship is good for body, mind and spirit. Final Comments: When a catastrophe like Hurricane Katrina strikes our nation, I am consistently impressed with the way our citizens respond; with generosity, kindness, and willingness to help in any way they can. This shows the historic spirit of America is not lost, even amidst all the political and ideological turmoil of recent years that would seem to tear us apart. Another effect of this event is to "turn on the lights" concerning the lack of preparedness of our government, from the top to the bottom of the chain of command. Appointees to positions seem to be linked inevitably to their contributions to fund- raising for political parties, rather than their credentials. It is an old story and not just about this administration. American politics and governance is about money and power. This is our opportunity to face the music, come out of our coma, and look at what is really going on, for the next victims may be any of us! While Saturn is in Leo, the sign highlighting the good and the bad in our leaders, we need to develop he faculty of looking past superficial spin and "marketing" techniques into the real facts about what they are doing. What is really happening in the economy, to the global climate, to life on earth? What is happening to you, your family, and the world you will pass onto your grandchildren? The focus of your power to evoke change is in the present. The time is now. Linda L. Schurman
