Gemini, the Twins – Our Favorite Tricksters!
As
the Sun, Venus, and Retrograde Mercury pass through the sign of Gemini,
meeting up with a trine (harmonious) aspect to Neptune and a square
(inharmonious) aspect to Uranus and an eventual set of oppositions
(stressful) to Pluto who is back in the late and critical degrees of
Sagittarius, we will (as last month) be deluged with whistleblowers on
the one hand and spin masters on the other. The fascinating trait of
persons with emphasis on Gemini in their horoscopes is the dual emphasis
on absolute truth-telling on the one hand, and manipulative propaganda
on the other. We will wonder which expansive personality is standing up
to be heard and which charmer is cleverly waiting in the wings to
contradict everything we thought we understood!
Last month’s terrible disasters have saddened us all. The huge
earthquake in China, the catastrophic typhoon in Burma (Myanmar) and the
sequenced tornadoes in the U.S.A. demonstrate to us the accelerating
warnings that nature and the environment can no longer be ignored.
Gemini and Mercury, its ruler, continue to emphasize high winds and
difficulty with travel. We have had two train wrecks in the U.S. The
airlines are facing dueling problems of malfunctions and bankruptcies.
Gasoline is at an all-time high. We cannot “trick” ourselves into
believing that our “leaders” either know what they are talking about or
have our interests at heart. Events speak for themselves.
The
Bank of International Settlements’ official estimate of notional
derivatives trade is $596 Trillion. This does not count the unofficial
over-the-counter derivatives contracts. Last month, I spoke of a $700
Trillion estimate. The point is: nobody really knows because this is so
absolutely out of control. There is a gap the size of the Grand Canyon
between the world of finance – the licensed gamblers, and the people who
are experiencing the “real economy” who can no longer afford their
mortgage payments, their credit card loans, or what it costs to fill up
their gas tanks. Facts speak for themselves.
The
chart of the U.S.A. has Uranus (innovation and liberty) and Mars (war)
in the sign of Gemini, which reveals why we have advanced so far
technologically and yet been involved in wars either overtly or secretly
almost continually since the early 20th Century. Like the
Roman Empire and the British Empire before us, we are tragically
depleting human capital, financial capital, and natural resources. Many
of those in the greatest positions of power in our nation are insulated,
greedy, power-hungry and arrogant to the point of blinding themselves to
the global damage they are doing, especially to the climate and
economies of the poorest nations.
Mercury is announcing to us that change is at hand. He goes “direct” on
the 19th and will oppose Pluto on July 10th. As
they used to say on “The X Files”, “The truth is out there!”
The Economy:
The Cabal is busy propping up the dollar and the stock market and
tanking gold. Last month, I warned my fellow gold bugs to be patient
and that warning still holds. Currency instability will continue to
haunt us and gold is the only “currency” with an innate value.
Expect frequent and crazy fluctuations in markets this month. Watch for
trend changes between the 19th and 20th when
Mercury goes direct and Mars opposes Neptune. Oil prices have gone up
and down but the long term trajectory is up. The fact is, we have
reached peak oil in the developed fields throughout the world. There
are new deposits, but very little movement is being made toward
developing them. Global warming melting the glaciers at the poles and
on the world’s mountain chains has accelerated and weather extremes
predicted by climatologists are now a fact. Even the most hardened oil
magnate recognizes this. This month, you will hear talk about
investment in windmills (Gemini) and solar (Leo) technologies. With
Mars in Leo, there will be talk about nuclear plants, but there is no
known way of disposing of the toxic waste, thus, there will be a
resistance to this. As I have said in previous newsletters,
transportation industries are in trouble as Gemini co-rules that
industry. Auto companies who have emphasized big gas guzzlers (Ford)
are in major trouble. Those on the cutting edge of fuel efficiency will
survive.
Politics:
This month, Barak Obama has the advantage and is the apparent nominee
of the Democratic Party. Mercury goes direct in a nearly exact sextile
to his Sun on the 19th. This means that although the
Democrats are meeting to decide about Florida and Michigan on May 31st,
there will still be some opposition from Hillary Clinton’s camp until
that direct station. Next month, I will do an analysis of both Obama’s
and McCain’s charts. I have waited because McCain’s “sharp as a tack”
96 year old mother recently said he was born at 11:00 AM rather than at
the 8:00 AM time most of us originally had. This is the problem that
plagues astrologers and makes it difficult for us to predict the
probable outcome of elections. If the time we have for Obama is correct
(1:06 PM), Mars is square his ascendant between June 9 and June 11th,
symbolizing a brief accident prone period. He needs to be careful about
what he says at this time. Otherwise, it looks like more delegates will
be getting on board with his campaign.
The War and the Middle East:
The transit of Mars in Leo, affecting many of the nations in the Middle
East, including Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran and crossing Pres.
Bush’s ascendant, is troubling. It would indicate that this
administration would still like to strike Iran before it leaves office.
However, Israel, is becoming destabilized as their Prime Minister has
been accused of accepting bribes and may be leaving office. They have
also been having talks with Syria which is a positive sign they may be
moving toward diplomacy rather than force. Lebanon is torn by civil
strife between their government and Hezbollah. There are two eclipses
coming up; a solar eclipse at 9 degrees of Leo on August 1st
and a lunar eclipse at 24 degrees of Aquarius on August 16th
Mars will oppose Uranus between the 6th and the 7th
of August and oppose Pluto on the 17th. I would not be surprised if the
Bush administration is planning something aggressive toward Iran in
August. This would also coincide with the Democratic Convention, taking
the show away from them. A lot will depend upon whether our military
hierarchy will go along with this. This administration operates almost
entirely behind closed doors and we know almost nothing about what is
really happening. Astrology can describe probabilities, but people
decide on events.
Weather and Travel:
With Mercury retrograde in Gemini, expect the unexpected. However, I
think that the most difficult stormy weather and high winds will likely
be in the first two weeks of July when Mercury, once again, is square
Uranus and opposition Pluto. Mercury is conjunct Venus between the 7th
and the 8th making that the best time for travel.
Final Thoughts:
We
live in an age of mass communication and media inundation. The noise is
everywhere and the volume has been turned up so loudly that we
frequently want to turn everything off. Commentators on both radio and
television are often in shouting matches with one another and, worse
still, are really saying nothing significant that would be enlightening
or even thought-provoking, as illustrated by recent campaign debates
whose questioners are more concerned about pins in lapels than the
coming economic depression or the energy crisis. Except for PBS and
NPR, idiocy lives alongside a landslide of commercials that take up more
time in a program than the content of the program itself. Too many
people are shutting down on being informed at all because of the
presentation of the news and the lack of truth or substance therein.
What we need is introspection; thoughtful and intelligent dialogue in a
calm and uninterrupted environment in which differing opinions can be
heard and respected. The closest to this I have found is PBS’s Bill
Moyers Show airing on Friday evenings and Amy Goodman’s Democracy Now,
airing on satellite radio and TV. The real last bastion of
journalistic democracy is the Internet and the many excellent
truth-saying blogs such as The Huffington Post.com and Common Dreams.
Org.
Most of all, we need to connect with ourselves in the innermost parts of
our psyche. Reading inspiring books, daily meditations, and walking
along beaches and in the woods, are necessary to reignite our desire to
go on living. Real communication is expressed between ourselves and
those we love and respect. Real truth resides within our relationship
to the spiritual light that is deep within each and every one of us.
