THE SOOTHESAYER INTERNET
July 2005
The New Moon on the 6th at 14 degrees of Cancer is near the Sun of the U.S.A. and Pres. Bush and is square (in conflict with) transiting Mars in Aries. Although the President will “put himself out there” to push his agenda, the war in Iraq (Mars) will continue to vex the American people and translate into lower polling numbers. The Full Moon on July 21st is opposite Saturn in Leo that is beginning its transit over Bush’s Ascendant, inconjunct Uranus. I have discussed this aspect in previous newsletters as symbolizing a period of serious conflict and difficulty. He will be held responsible for policies that have led the country into enormous debt and a seemingly endless war whose reasons for existing have evaporated. The good news is that the days of people being compliant as a response to 9/11 are over. We will see political parties in open conflict (as has gone on in recent months), and many people stepping up to the podium presenting their views. Public discussion and dissent are two highly important rights and privileges that reinvigorate our democracy. It has been their absence that has gotten us into trouble in the first place! Mercury retrogrades in Leo from July 23rd through August 17th. This is a bad time to sign important documents or start new projects. It is better to go on vacation since very little will get accomplished due to lack of both will and clarity.
The Economy:Financial markets should be moving upward through the 8th, but may come down toward the end of the month as Mercury retrogrades. Between now and August, I think gold and metals will come down sharply and it may be a good time to buy on the lows. This sector will make a strong comeback starting in November. There may be a large acquisition or merger of giants when Mars and Venus trine Pluto between the 14th and the 15th. This may bring the markets up on the announcement. With the emphasis on the sign of Leo, important changes in leadership may be made in the media, the movies and show business industries in general. Between the 11th and the 13th, watch for news around oil companies as Mercury and Venus oppose Neptune. Although there will be fluctuations in price, oil and gas are on a long term upward spiral, forcing us to redesign cars, houses, and emphasize solar, windmill and nuclear technologies. Nobody is going to be able to control this for any length of time. Bush’s Social Security reform will go “bust” since everyone knows about all the pensions, 401K’s and private investments that have tanked in recent years. Putting the system “at risk” through speculation in financial markets is a way of ending the system entirely. Instead of “weapons of mass distraction”, the President should be concentrating on the giant budget deficits that his tax breaks for the richest people in the country has helped to create. Toward the end of the month and into August, there will be more people laid off as their jobs continue to be “outsourced” to cheap labor forces abroad and technology replaces people at an accelerated rate. When Mars goes into Taurus and squares Saturn on the 29th, (where it will stay until Feb. 17th, 2006), real estate markets in some parts of the country will begin to weaken.
Politics & Foreign Policy:As the war rages on in Iraq and Afghanistan, insurgencies will gain momentum as Mars transits the fiery sign of Aries. As long as American soldiers occupy their lands, the people will continue to fight. This same Mars hits the chart of the U.K, adding to problems with Tony Blair’s government. These problems will intensify for him in the Fall. China has recently put in a bid to buy Unocal, an American oil giant. This month, there will be a justifiable fight over allowing this to happen since this is a threat to our national security. This country will be increasingly aggressive this month. Our relationship with China is highly complex since we are moving our manufacturing over there, we savor their capitalistic fervor and future markets and they own a great deal of our U.S. treasuries. However, they still have a Communist style government and are highly self-protective. They steal our intellectual material and have no compunction about violating the “free trade” agreements. Pakistan’s chart is activated this month. Saturn going into Leo for the next two and a half years will force this nation to come to terms with Islamist extremists and the vulnerability of their President Musharaf (a Leo). The question will be whether or not this government will remain in power. Pakistan is a key ally in the war with terrorists in Afghanistan. There will be power struggles in India as the gap widens between a relative handful of people getting richer and the vast majority getting poorer. The privatizing of their water rights now owned by Monsanto, the seed tyranny of giant agri-businesses is creating famine, drought, and poverty in the farming areas of this nation. Many farmers there are committing suicide. With Mars entering Taurus for about seven months and Saturn in Leo for the next couple of years, this nation’s economy that has been growing so fast may stall out forcing leadership changes. The peace process between Israel and the Palestinians will be threatened in the next few months. The Israelis will be in a serious conflict among themselves and with their government over giving up their land, as Mars goes back and forth over their Sun and Saturn transits their Moon, Pluto, Saturn, and Mars in the next two years. These may be the greatest challenges this nation has had with itself since the nation was created in 1948.
Weather & Travel:With Mars transiting Aries, fires will continue to rage in the Western states. Weather will be extremely hot and dry until the end of the month when Mars enters Taurus. July 1st through the 7th are good travel times as are the 15th through the 18th. July 29th through Aug. 7th are not good because of Mars square Saturn and retrograde Mercury that tends to coincide with accidents, mechanical problems and road construction.
Final Comments:This month’s fiery planetary placements present us with some interesting opportunities. The high energy cycle points to getting our grievances out in the open, settling disputes with honesty and clarity, stepping up to the plate, and really getting things done. Hiding out behind the scenes won’t work in this period. Neither will “secret” agendas, attempts at deception or duplicity. We will likely have a lot of physical energy and determination to set clear cut goals, move forward, move mountains, or, at the very least, accomplish tasks we have put on the back burner for some time. The emphasis on Leo is a rekindling of passion in our lives whether we are young or old. We know we are alive and kicking, not just doing time till it all ends. I plead “guilty” to falling into the astrologer’s trap of gloom and doom from time to time, as so many seemingly overwhelming problems present themselves to us in their historic dark shrouds. It is tempting to retreat and go into some form of exile. But retreat and exile simply don’t work for any length of time. The fire of the human spirit, our legacy from the stars may lift us once again out of the primordial haze into a truer and finer manifestation of life on earth. And it’s bigger than all of us!
