Here we are in the period designated by calendars of western civilizations as the New Year A.D. 2007 whose history was created by ancient astrologers and their calculations of the positions of the Sun and the Moon, and whose weeks and months were written down and made official by European kings. Although time is thought by some to be an illusion, it brings order into an otherwise chaotic and frightening existence. Einstein taught us that time changes as we move faster and faster toward the speed of light. Our concept of the passage of time also changes as events swarm in on us, crowding out contemplation and replacing it with a kind of nervous frenzy in our race to “something else.” This mysterious something may be more money and greater political and technological power, leading to an eternally hungry society of mass consumers and unfathomable weaponry at the service of small minds and lost souls. As an astrologer, I am both blessed and cursed by he knowledge of the regions of experience we are destined to cross in these times and the times to come. Science has uncovered for us the many ways our planet and its life forms have been destroyed over vast landscapes of time. For the first time, scientists are informing us that humankind may be the instrument for its own destruction as well as most other forms of life here on earth. Perhaps it is now time to contemplate before time itself closes in on us, bringing down the high and the mighty and the rest of us with it. We may actually find the pathway out of the primal darkness into the light of understanding in the most unexpected place: the still small voice within each and every one of us.
******************* The Economy: Financial markets look bullish the first week of the month and may hold up till around the 12th. Mars is conjunct Pluto between the 12th and the 14th signaling a high probability of a sell-off. The period of March through June of “07 looks bullish for Wall Street, but the split between the stock market and what is going on for most Americans is widening. The rush to “privatize” everything from health care to highways is creating an infrastructure only for the rich. The civilization created for the American people in general: public education, public transportation, public parks, public water works, and public highways is now threatened. An unequal playing field with tax breaks for the richest Americans is obliterating the very middle class that made Democracy possible. Pluto enters the sign of Capricorn January 26, 2008, setting the stage for a second “American Revolution” from 2010 to 2024. The piper will have to be paid. If you want to be placed in a good position for this, buy gold, stocks in water and water purification, “green” investments such as solar, windmill, bio-fuel and new non-fossil fuel technologies. These are areas I have recommended on this site for the past five years. Another area to be involved with is solar architecture. Anything that constructs solar buildings or has the means to convert buildings to be energy efficient is the wave of the future. I think that the fall of the dollar is the most important issue and is confirming my forecast for the great depression that lies ahead. Already, China has announced it will not be buying more U.S. Treasuries and Saudi Arabia is starting to move away from the dollar into Euros. The Bush administration’s catastrophic Iraq war has alienated the entire Middle East and they cannot wait to get into either Euros or gold. The real estate market will get a temporary boost as the Fed will be unlikely to raise interest rates and Jupiter in Sagittarius will stimulate people to buy. This upswing will be over and recession will be on its way by the end of this year, as Jupiter goes into Capricorn. I would strongly advise selling between now and June it you wish to get your equity out of your house. If you have a small mortgage, a small amount or no debt, and are happy with where you live, there may be no need to do this.
The War & Global Politics: I think Pres. Bush will order more troops into Iraq. We all know how limited our military resources are, so this means he will be denying leave to already exhausted soldiers as he brings additional people into the quagmire. Mars transits Capricorn, the sign it was in when the war started, Jan. 17th through Feb. 26th. Feb. 14th through March 8th, Mercury retrogrades in Pisces back into Aquarius. This points toward escalating the war and real confusion and subterfuge around the whole process. In the meantime, like the Roman Empire before us, we are going broke financially, politically, and morally. This year, Tony Blair is leaving office and there will be leadership changes in the U.K. However, it will be unclear what direction the British will be headed for quite a while as the same entrenched wealth that controls things in the U.S., controls things in the U.K. The Mars/Pluto conjunction between the 12th and 14th of this month activates many charts in Central and South America, including Mexico and Venezuela. Issues we have with these nations will be highlighted this month and continue into the eclipses in March.
The Coming Presidential Election: As people announce they are running, I hope to be able to get their birth dates, times and places and comment on their possibilities. I think we will have some surprises on the horizon as Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto are all changing signs within a year. The charts of candidates will be analyzed on this site.
Travel and Weather: Jan. 11th through the 14th and the 26th through the 28th are not good times to travel. The western United States has gotten most of the bad weather in 2006 and that trend will continue. However, Jan. 16th through the 31st it will get much colder in the eastern U.S. Global warming has noticeably changed our winters on a worldwide scale. This year is another weird year. I think March will be cooler than normal on the east coast.

I think we all agree that we cannot allow things to continue going along the way they have gone on before. I think most of us are now aware we are reaching a point in time that will bring either extinction or evolution. We are all in this together and in that, lies our greatest hope.
