THE SOOTHESAYER INTERNET January 2005
Happy New Year!
As we emerge from the shock of the tsunami, one of the greatest natural disasters in modern history, hearts and pocketbooks open to aid millions of people who have literally lost everything. The most recent count estimates over 120,000 lives lost and the figure continues to rise. I am deeply touched by the kindness and heroism of the natives of these eleven countries in the midst of the devastation around them and by the eagerness and willingness of people from other nations to reach out with aid in any way possible. This is such a demonstration of human courage and compassion that it reminds us of the potential for greatness in all of us, even with the demons of war, greed and chaos all around us. Whatever historic challenges lie ahead, it lends a ray of hope that goodness may yet prevail. Many of my clients and readers have contacted me recently, reminding me of the predictions made in The SootheSayer over the years about the disappearance of islands, coastal regions, and low-lying nations due to the rising of the oceans. I have also predicted an escalation in the number of severe earthquakes in areas with large populations. My advice has been that we will need to retreat inland to places of elevation in order to survive the times ahead. This period is projected from 2003 (when Uranus transited into Pisces) through 2026 when Neptune finishes its transit in Pisces. The sign of Pisces symbolizes the ocean, ocean currents, oil, chemicals, and liquids in general, including the magma of the earth and the lava of volcanoes. I currently do not know of anyone who predicted the 9.0 earthquake in Sumatra on Dec. 26th. Transiting Mars was in the critical first degree of Sagittarius, inconjunct the transiting North Node of the Moon in the critical first degree of Taurus. I theorize that this was the aspect of instability. Astrologers who specialize in this subject (this is not my specialty) look at aspects, signs and placements that have occurred in the past and may repeat themselves in the future. I was able to predict the 1989 earthquake in San Francisco because Uranus returned to the position (8-9 degrees of Capricorn) and aspecting Neptune where it occurred in 1906 when San Francisco was destroyed by an earthquake. In 2012 through 2013, Pluto will be in this degree of Capricorn, squared to Uranus in Aries. I hypothesize that this part of the world will be in danger again at that time.
JANUARY’S PLANETARY PLACEMENTS:The Economy:The Dow ended in 2004 about where it started in 2004. The spin has been about this great economy and how healthy it is. In what world are the spinners spinning? The dollar has fallen to new lows and will probably continue its trajectory this month. Protections in American textile industries are being allowed to expire this month. This will cost us more than 680,000 jobs. Corporations are increasingly outsourcing the labor force to cheap workers in India and China and the jobs that have been added to our economy are mostly low level health care workers, the military, and minimum wage jobs in the retail industry. The middle class is disappearing and with it the so-called American Dream. American corporations are essentially global holding companies with offshore accounts, exempting them from most taxes. The upper 1% in income are benefiting most from Pres. Bush tax cuts that he now wants to make “permanent”. Pres. Bush is going to ask Congress for an additional 80 Billion Dollars for the black hole war in Iraq, increasing our federal budget deficits to beyond the stratosphere! Meanwhile, back on the ranch, most of us are saddled with local taxes that are skyrocketing, so that the states and municipalities can pay for an essential infrastructure that the feds can no longer pay; i.e., schools, roadways, healthcare. Speaking of healthcare, Pres. Bush and the Congress have done absolutely nothing to help the system except threaten to take away a poor person’s right to sue for decent compensation in a court of law. This month, Saturn is inconjunct Pluto, symbolizing the worsening deficits. The stock market will be unsure of itself this month; more down than up. This month will announce more mergers and acquisitions, further downsizing employment. With all the emphasis on Sagittarius, airlines will decide whether they will go bankrupt or restructure. Metals will go up and then down around the middle of the month. Gold will do well in March of this year, when Jupiter trines Neptune, as it did the end of November ’04.
International Relations:The people of Iraq, as most people believe, will have serious difficulty holding or validating the election the end of this month. Chaos and civil insurgencies will continue and any leader who assumes control will likely not last. The configurations in their chart (July 14, 1958), point to major conflict both within and without throughout 2005. Their problems are especially intense in March of this year. Hopes are up for a peace agreement between Israel and Palestine as they elect a new leader. Jupiter in Libra is helping this process and there will definitely be talks and meetings. However, the Israelis, who are controlled by right-wing extremists, have no intention of ceding any territory back to the Palestinians. Therefore, I think efforts will be made, but, for the time being, it will be all talk. July 16th of this year, Saturn will go into Leo, symbolizing a two-year transit of extreme difficulty in the chart of Israel (May 14, 1948). Other Middle Eastern nations will likely be dragged into the conflict. Unless the Bush administration gets really involved in forging this peace, the whole region will likely head into turmoil. The chart of Afghanistan (July 17, 1973) has Saturn and Pluto in tough aspects to it’s Sun in Cancer. The leadership and coherence of the country are in real trouble and it will take more troops from the U.S.A. (and more money) to even approach stability. They have essentially no economy except for the drug business and no working infrastructure to hold the nation together. As I have predicted in previous newsletters, Vladimir Putin is moving Russia toward the old Soviet-style dictatorship. However, certain capitalists, a small elite group, are in league with the government and are thriving in Moscow. Putin is taking over Yuko oil and will accomplish a lot this month to consolidate his power, as the planets in Sagittarius are harmonious with his stellium in Libra. Japan is running into economic difficulties this month and will have to institute more reforms between now and March, as Mercury and Venus, then Mars all transit Capricorn. China will continue to tie its currency to the dollar and expand its economy. This month through March, they will be working hard and effectively to make oil deals with Venezuela, Russia, and any place else they can feed their growing energy needs. However, they are aware that their commodity and energy demands are causing inflation in global markets. The growth of industry in China has polluted their earth, air and water beyond belief! They will be looking for environmental clean up technologies and solar and fuel cell systems to reduce their need for fossil fuels.
Travel:I would not travel between Jan. 4th & 5th, or between Jan. 24th through the 28th. There could be complications with weather and airlines.
Final Thoughts:We are moving toward a threshold in human history in which a great shift in consciousness will take place. As collective events arise: natural catastrophes, the abuse of power, economic chaos, loss of life, and environmental destruction, we tend to feel hopeless in the face of the magnitude of repetitive historic human self-destructiveness. What we often do not calculate is the capacity in all of us that is waiting to be tapped; the eyes that are waiting to see the truth, the heart that is waiting to feel the love, the soul that is waiting to know what is sacred and beautiful. The constellations in the sky at midnight remind me of the dawn that is just ahead, if we are patient, persistent, and peaceful within ourselves. Somehow, the universe has a plan for us that we have yet to realize and each year, as it unfolds, brings us closer to the mystery that is at the heart of our existence.
