THE SOOTHESAYER INTERNET December 2004Mercury has just gone retrograde until it goes direct on Dec. 20th. It will cross Pluto on Dec. 8th retrograding, go direct and cross it again on Jan. 4th. This configuration points to the nation’s fear of terrorists and illegal aliens crossing our borders. Former N.J. Gov. Thomas Keane who headed up the 911 Commission has been making a very public pitch for his commission’s recommendations to be passed in the form of a bill that is now before the Congress. This is a tall order since the bill does not contain a plan for securing our borders over which millions are pouring every day, especially from Mexico. Pres. Bush says he is for passage of the bill but is not exerting his usual pressure to get it passed. If the legislature waits until next year when new people are coming in, they will have to start all over again. I do not think a bill will pass with Mercury retrograde and somehow this effort will not progress until after Dec. 20th. Both Pluto and Mercury are in the sign of Sagittarius, the sign of globalization, immigration, expansion and travel. These are the significant “issues” of our time. The outsourcing of jobs to India and China and the allowing of illegal immigrants to work in our country for a pittance is the “dark side” of capitalism, which is to keep employment to a minimum and keep wages low. Soon, we will not have a market to sell anything as more and more people lose jobs and fall beneath the poverty line. The rich are getting richer while everyone else is headed into a downward spiral. We need people to think outside the “box”, creatively and coherently to come up with new economic designs and ideals. The present administration is so far inside the box, it is unclear how progress can be possible at all. The current idea of “privatizing” Social Security would require more borrowing to finance it. Our budget deficits now are running over 5% of our GNP. Argentina’s economy “crashed” back in 2001 when its budge deficit reached over 4% of GNP. The dollar is in a landslide fall that will make inflation and increases in interest rates inevitable. Will somebody with a real brain please stand up?
The Economy:The stock market will be uncertain and cautious with Mars and Venus squaring Neptune, and Mercury retrograde. The new Moon conjuncts Pluto on the 12th raising security fears. These point to a down market, although not a “crash”. When Mercury goes direct on the 20th forming a sextile with optimistic Jupiter by the 30th, the market will likely rise into January. As I forecasted in my last newsletter, gold has been strongly rising and will likely peak around the middle of next month, so you may want to sell some (but not all) of your positions if you are speculating. It will likely rise again under the next Jupiter trine Neptune, the week of March 13th.
International Relations:Pres. Bush has gotten an extremely cool reception from the Canadians, two-thirds of whom would have voted him out of office. He will find that nations throughout the world have developed antagonisms toward him and his administration, finding him arrogant, unintelligent and directed toward military solutions to problems. He may feel he has political capital here at home, but he has practically none abroad. Iraq continues to produce more insurgents, dissent and chaos. If the elections are able to be held the end of January, the new leadership will be immediately challenged as Mars transits Capricorn between Jan. 7th and March 20th. This transit collides with the chart of Iraq with an increase in violence and upheaval. Since Arafat’s demise, hope is renewed with regard to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. In previous newsletters, I have stressed that the transit of Jupiter, trining Neptune and sextiling Pluto would possibly open a window of opportunity for peace talks. Between the 20th and 30th of this month, Mercury sextiles Jupiter and suggests some optimism on this front. Iran seems to have backed down on building up nuclear technology for defensive purposes. The problem is that our government does not really believe this will happen. Russia has been helping them for years but little is being said about this. Putin is cleverly building his capital and power in the Middle East, encouraging the Euro-dollarizing of the oil trade and further consolidating his power among oil producing nations. Oil is his key to a strong economy and his tactics are working. He is a Libra with a stellium of planets in that sign. As good-luck Jupiter transits his chart, he will expand on this success. It is interesting that the recent election in the Ukraine is being publicly and peacefully protested, as Mercury goes back and forth over Pluto. The present head of state is even suggesting a new election be held. As inconvenient as all this is, it is real democracy at work. It also suggests we need to look more deeply into our recent election and the many indications about the existence of fraud. I would not be surprised if information is released this month about this very subject!
Thoughts for the Holiday Season:As dark and troubled as the skies above us seem at this point, perhaps we need to remember the star of Bethlehem observed by astrologers 2000 years ago. A star does not belong only to one nation, one religion, one race, or one ruling elite. This kind and quality of light belongs to all of us and calls forth the best that resides in the human heart. The Messiah belongs to Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Wiccans, and all those who make a sincere effort to reach both within themselves and beyond themselves to where the truth lies. This truth is a love so great, moving and magnificent that we often avoid it, feeling it threatens the existence of our carefully constructed societies and systems of belief. And it does. The stars speak to me of an outreaching to that which is greater, wiser, and unspeakably beautiful. They speak to me of the next step in the evolution of humankind beyond the concept of predator and prey when the lion will truly lie down with the lamb and the wonderful continuum of life will stretch into eternity!
Blessings to all of you in this Season. Linda Linda L. Schurman |
