THE SOOTHESAYER INTERNET
April 2005
The most important astrological events this month are the two eclipses. There is a solar eclipse at 19 degrees Aries on April 8th and a lunar eclipse at 4 degrees of Scorpio on the 24th. In addition, Mercury is still retrograde until the 12th, cautioning all of us to avoid signing important documents or starting new projects. Enterprises that are launched in eclipse months are generally not favored and it is better to put something off for a more favorable time period.
The Aries eclipse is square transiting Saturn in Cancer and brings many of last month’s events to a climax. Terry Schiavo’s poignant case so much before the public eye, the Pope’s serious medical problems, Rev. Jerry Falwell’s bout with congestive heart failure, the violent school shootings in Minnesota, and the cases of child molestation and murder all made up the headlines in March and serve as a reminder that we all need to go inward to a place of peace and contemplate the meaning behind all this. The ancient questions are being raised about respect for life, the meaning of death, and the place of faith in our society.
Around the Globe:Afghanistan’s charts (July 17, 1973 and April 25, 1992) are being hit by both eclipses, pointing to the severe difficulties this nation has had and still has with cultural cohesiveness and self-governance. This nation’s struggle will continue to get worse until around the second half of 2006 when opportunities may open up for improvement. The solar eclipse hits Ireland’s chart (April 17, 1949), conjunct it’s Mars (violence and conflict), square to transiting Saturn (restraint and frustration). Many of the old issues with the IRA will re-emerge and have to be addressed again. Egypt’s natal chart (March 15, 1922) takes the solar eclipse opposite it’s Moon and suggests changes in leadership are coming in this country, for the first time in many years. Iraq’s chart shows increasing difficulties with their parliamentary government and their ability to come together to elect leaders. Ethnic differences will produce more frustrating violence and stalemates in governance. Chechnya will experience the lunar eclipse opposite it’s Sun (Oct. 27, 1991) bringing their ongoing conflict with Russia to a head, possibly increasing Russian military domination there. Several of the astrological charts of the U.K. are activated and this is the month Prince Charles will wed his long-time lover, Camilla Parker-Bowles. However, I would have advised them to wait and avoid this month’s eclipses. Germany ‘s modern chart (July 1, 1990) takes a major hit on its Mars, opposite its Moon, and square its Jupiter/Saturn opposition. This, combined with transiting Saturn hitting all of this brings out seriously troubling news about their stock market, their economy in general, and their Prime Minister and Parliament.
The Economy & Finance:Here in the U.S.A., financial markets will be rising this month, especially from April 4th through the 24th. The Nasdaq, in particular, will benefit since the Mars in Aquarius benefits tech stocks and introduces new marketable technologies. Gold still looks favorable this month, but I feel that it will take a hit this summer. Wait until around October, to buy, as I think it will start an upswing in November. Look at companies that are developing alternative to oil and gas, coal cleaning technologies, and other industries looking to solve the growing energy and environmental crises. April 16th through May 10th, the real estate market will improve as Venus transits Taurus, making good aspects with Uranus and Saturn.
Politics:The week of April 10th, Mars goes over Neptune , both in 17 degrees Aquarius, a historically sensitive point in the chart of the U.S. Presidency. Considered a “whistle blowing” degree, look for more information to emerge about the current administration’s secrets it does not want to come out. As Mercury goes direct on the 12th, it will be difficult to hide scandals and misdemeanors. This month, the Democrats may finally present a plan to save the Social Security system from eventual insolvency. Pres. Bush’s plan is “dead on arrival” but he is correct that the Democrats have dragged their feet and lacked cohesiveness. After the 12th, they will, hopefully, suggest the simple and minor corrections that need to be made. I am hoping that they will focus on the far more important federal budget deficits that, if allowed to continue, will bring this country down into bankruptcy by 2008. Sen. Hillary Clinton’s chart is being hit by the lunar eclipse on the 24th. Former Pres. Bill Clinton has been hospitalized twice recently, as we all know. Her chart was hit by the October 28th, 2004 solar eclipse. This period is much more difficult for here than many people realize.
Weather & Travel:With Mars transiting through Aquarius, we will have more sunshine, but the temperatures will likely be cooler than average and we may have some high winds. The 7th, 12th and 27th are particularly good times to travel. Last month’s delays due to weather conditions and Mercury retrograde will lighten up.
Final Thoughts:As all the seemingly overwhelming problems and events pass before our eyes, it is tempting to turn off the television set and pull the covers over our heads. The gathering storms and crises in our world remind us how fortunate our lives have been and how seemingly easy it has been for us to consume and use up resources we have taken for granted: the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the energy we use. We forget the wars that have been fought, the secret deals that have been made, the life on earth that has been sacrificed, all to make this happen. Through the lens of Astrology, I see this world coming to an end. I see a new way of life struggling to be born beneath the surface of what presently seems impossible to face. Entirely new economic frameworks will be forged, involving local communities enjoying independence from the failing “grid” of abuse of the environment and consumption of resources. This will involve the human race “growing up”, taking responsibility, and inventing its way out of the crisis. It will involve bringing the magnificent ideals of the world’s great religions into our daily lives: brotherly love, equality of opportunity, peaceful co-existence with nature and one another. At this moment in time, many of us are experiencing extremes of emotion. One day we feel a despair that seems to engulf us. The next day, we may feel a peace that is so great it renews our hopes and dreams, bringing us to an entirely new level of awareness. It reminds me of the pain of giving birth to a child; agonizing and then thrilling, and then overwhelmed by the magic of a new life placed gently in our arms. And we will all feel it was worth it!
