May-June2024

Jupiter in Gemini (the Twins) – May 26, 2024 – June 10, 2025.

Gemini -the twins- is a sign concerned with communication of all sorts. It is a “mutable” air sign, that does not discriminate between truths and lies, good and evil, right or wrong, and is capable of flip-flops, turnarounds, reversals, of all sorts, confusing the observers, deceiving and/or inspiring friends and enemies alike. It often has a great sense of humor, charm, and charisma that can disarm even the most skeptical observer. I often joke around with my Gemini friends asking: ” Which one of you has shown up today?”

The fables of the twins Castor and Pollux, Rose Red and Rose White, feuding brothers, jealous sisters – are all reminiscent of family quarrels and often overlooked traumas individuals suffer from cruel and selfish brothers or sisters while growing up. A sign of early childhood development, Gemini often frames how siblings either love and support one another or grow up hating each other, vying for control over family estates and resources later on.

Gemini, along with Aries and Aquarius, “rule” the brain and nervous system, early childhood development and literacy, and powers of observation of the localized world around it. It is a sign of coordination and “locomotion”, walking, talking, running, bicycling, and skating. Its opposite sign, Sagittarius rules over higher education, and global travel, including cars, trucks, trains, planes, and rocket ships. Early education institutions such as preschools and elementary schools fall under the influence of Gemini.

The last time Jupiter transited Gemini was June 2012 – June 2013. This marked the transition from flip phones to smartphones and corresponds with a wave of young people, particularly girls, becoming seriously depressed, even suicidal, as eyeballs became glued to screens! With this transit, we may examine the consequences of obsessively enclosed living in the cyber world, and attempt to remediate this seriously destructive trend.

Transits in Gemini (an air sign) are often associated with storms – hurricanes, tornadoes, high wind gusts. Its last Jupiter transit – June 12, 2012, through June 25, 2013 – presented Hurricane Sandy that decimated US coastal regions, especially in New York and New Jersey. Weird climate changes will continue to upend and astound many populations throughout the world.

Last year presented us with the warmest global temperature in recorded history. This year the US has been confronted with massive storms, tornadoes, and floods running through the South into the northeast of the nation. Normally, desert regions in the Middle East, such as Dubai, have seen unprecedented massive flooding.

The recent furor over Congress banning Chinese owned Tik Tok, a huge chunk of the social media communications landscape, its threat by China’s spying capabilities to access enormous amounts of data from Americans, vs. “freedom of speech” is ongoing — with the possibility of an American corporation purchasing it, and raising serious questions, once again, about internet cyber security on all levels. Bills banning the popular social media presence are currently being examined in Congress. Presently, the transit of Saturn in Pisces would symbolize a conflict (a square) with this issue through early next year.

Xi Jinping, Premier of China is a Gemini as is former President Donald Trump. Jupiter in Gemini is square (conflict) with Saturn (restriction) the week of Aug. 18 and again the week of Dec. 22. Truth v. lies on Social Media, news media, political discourse, and internet sites in general will be questioned and flaws exposed.

Jupiter is a planet that symbolizes expansion, travel, and movement into prominence, all of which will apply to all realms of communication, including writing, teaching, journalism, news media, and politics. You can count on Donald Trump (a Gemini), even while his presence is demanded in numerous court appearances, to use every communication device known to push his campaign. However, there are aspects in his chart that will tend to “wear him down”, exposing untruths he has promoted for years. Neptune and Saturn in Pisces will tend to get rid of delusions.

What Lies Ahead:

The chart of the US Uranus in Gemini presents (sudden upheavals and inventions) and Mars (war) in Gemini. Uranus will go into Gemini (for a seven-year transit) starting in 2025. Pres. Biden has made many diplomatic trips to Japan and reached out to Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Taiwan to cement our alliances in the Pacific to show military and economic strengths opposing the rising power of China.

The Economy:

Jupiter is presently in Taurus until May 25th, a generally favorable placement for the economy, even though it also presents us with continued serious inflation. As it transits into Gemini, beginning May 26, it has not, historically, been particularly favorable for the economy or Wall Street.

As Jupiter squares Saturn in August, it might bring down inflation, and influence the Fed to lower interest rates, in response. The ongoing transit of Uranus in Taurus (also usually inflationary) shows wild swings in both the financial and the real estate markets.

The value of the dollar, still the international currency, has inflated so much that gold and silver have recently reached all-time highs, as a safety play. This is especially true for China, which owns huge amounts of US Treasuries and is buying gold to secure its currency.

Despite nearly full employment, Americans are paying more for gas and oil, housing, and car and home insurance than ever before, nearly canceling the higher wages they are now making. In Florida and other hurricane-prone parts of the country, a family can no longer get homeowners insurance. The gap between the enormously rich and the rest of the population is larger than at any other time in recent history. This is the primary cause of American discontent with the economy.

The Supreme Court:

This hard right court has caused great controversy, especially since getting rid of the protection of women’s rights to get an abortion when they overturned Roe v Wade. Exposure of corruption of justices by billionaires has sent their approval ratings to the lowest ever recorded.

In June, they will decide if a president is immune from prosecution for a crime after he leaves office, affecting the court cases in which Trump is currently involved. I doubt that they will vote that a president is immune and would be “above the law.” since this would violate the most basic tenets of our democracy.

Foreign Relations:

The war between Hamas and Israel and its decimation of the Palestinians has resulted in huge protests in universities throughout the US. Muslim students and Jewish students are fighting that war here on campuses in America. The Biden administration, criticized by both sides, is trying to stop this war and work with both sides, which is proving to be impossible.

Jupiter in Gemini goes over both Uranus and Mars in the US chart, pulling us into more conflicts throughout the world and will likely affect the solvency of many nations’ currencies. America’s navy in the Gulf and the Red Sea is currently engaged in the largest military operation since WWII, demonstrating the flow of government money into a conflict fueled by the Israeli-Hamas war.

Iran is increasingly more involved in this conflict, targeting Israel, as Israel is targeting its installations in the region. Iran’s “proxies” are Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Palestine, and Houthi Rebels in Yemen, who have been striking at Israel and the US for many years. The recent mutual strikes of Iran in Israel and Israel in Iran seem to be somewhat muted, signaling a lack of desire for a general world war throughout the region.

The US Congress has passed funding for Israel. However, Israel will be unlikely to end their decimation of Palestine until the end of May. The US and most of the rest of the world are promoting a “two-state solution” in Israel that currently, Prime Minister Netanyahu is historically against.

Unfortunately, Mars goes into Taurus on June 9, square Pluto, and is in the sign until July 20, after going over Uranus. This would suggest re-activating upheavals in the chart of Israel and conflicts in the region.

More US money and arms have gone into funding Ukraine. We are also funding money to go into protections for Taiwan. We are currently in a “Cold War” with Russia, China, Iran, and No. Korea. Thus the enormous US government budget deficits will likely keep growing. The debts rising on the part of the American consumer saddled with high-interest rates is eventually a real and existential threat to the economy.

The civil war in Sudan has resulted in millions of its people immigrating out of the country or losing their lives, en mass, by remaining there. Climate catastrophe, starvation, and infrastructure decimation are developing, resulting in the worst famine in modern times. The continent of Africa is taking multiple direct hits.

June 18th, Mercury and Venus conjunct at 00 degrees Cancer (a world point) inconjunct Pluto in Aquarius that would suggest either a terrible accident, a serious earthquake and possibly tsunami, or a breach in intelligence.

The Bigger Picture:

In 2025, Uranus goes into Gemini for seven years. Previous historic transits of Uranus in Gemini were present during the American Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and WW II. Cyber Security technology is becoming increasingly important concerning the amplification of spying and is even preventing weapons of war everywhere.

On top of all this, the Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Aries in June of 2025 will likely result in a global currency crisis. On the other hand, however, new optimism, new scientific breakthroughs, and a renewed humanity might arise out of the ashes to formulate a new world. Will we repeat history or break with it?

Science and Technology:

Nuclear Fusion:

One of the most comprehensive and up-to-date articles about nuclear fusion was published online in “The Telegraph” on March 13, 2024, by Ambrose Evans-Pritchard, entitled “Nuclear fusion for the grid is coming much sooner than you think.” He reports: “Commercial nuclear fusion has gone from science fiction to science fact in less than a decade.

Even well-informed members of the West’s political class are mostly unaware of the quantum leap in superconductors, lasers, and advanced materials suddenly changing the economics of fusion power, pushing the boundary to 1.85 terapascal, five times the pressure at the core of the earth.

Evans-Pritchard goes on to say: “Days earlier, a clutch of peer-reviewed papers confirmed that Commonwealth Fusion Systems near Boston had broken the world record for a large-scale magnet with a field strength of 20 tesla using the latest high-temperature conducting technology. This exceeds the threshold necessary for producing net energy, or a ‘Q factor’, above 1.0.”

They go on to report: “Britain is going gangbusters on all fronts, a legacy of ITER’s Joint European Torus project at Culham, but also a feast of leadership. ‘Of all the countries in the world, the UK is most aggressively pursuing fusion power.’ said American scientists Matthew Moynihan and Alfred Bortz, co-authors of Fusion’s Promise.’

There are multiple fusion chambers — Helion in Seattle, Washington, the site in Cambridge, MA., and Livermore Labs in California. This would include sites in China, Japan, and the oldest, largest, and most progress-delayed chamber, ITER in France.

On March 21, announced on Reuters/Apple News, it was reported: “Nuclear fusion backers meet in US capitol as competition with China looms.” It is interesting that this news, to my knowledge, did not appear in mainstream media.

Hydrogen fuel cells:

There is good news recently reported that the US Department of Energy’s Office of Vehicle Technologies gave $133 million for research into advanced vehicle technologies, mainly targeting hydrogen fuel cells. Japan is ahead of us in this development enterprise and will be making cars using this technology.

Nuclear Weapons:

In the December 2023 Edition of Scientific American, an article was published entitled: “Inside the Pit Factory.” by Sarah Scoles. It reports: “For the first time in decades the US is ramping up production of plutonium cores for nuclear weapons.” This article is worth reading in its totality.

Following WW II, there emerged the Cold War. Russia and the US competed for bigger and more lethal nuclear weapons. These developments were based on the premise that another world war could be avoided if each nation threatened by another would be capable of destroying the enemy, assuring mutual mass destruction.

At this pivotal historic point, with the emerging nuclear capabilities of Russia, China, Iran, and No. Korea pitted against the US and its allies, we are looking at this possibility once again. All this does not even include other exotic weapons that could wipe out satellite technologies and take down infrastructures throughout the world.

Does anyone recall “Dr. Strangelove”?

Final Thoughts:

“This is the time of tension between dying and birth

The place of solitude where three dreams cross Between blue rocks

But when the voices shaken from the yew tree drift away

Let the other be shaken and reply.”

From “Ash Wednesday” by T. S. Eliot

As I survey the planets and constellations in a dark and, seemingly, impersonal sky, I cannot help but contemplate how the universe created all of us out of itself from galaxies that live and die and live again; out of collapsed stars, novas, and new star systems — and seemingly conscious human beings who also collapse and reemerge in countless ways. I simply do not know how a galaxy knows its progeny or if a human ever knows its children. Nor do I know how we can create out of ourselves such breathtaking beauty and light, only to reduce it to rubble.

This I do know – we have choices that are different and innumerable – that out of death arises new life – and that love never dies. What is the choice you will make?

Blessings,

Book Review from June/July 2018 Edition of The Mountain Astrologer

Our Choice: Extinction or Evolution by Richard Spitzer and Linda Schurman, Soothe Script Publishing LLC, Ithaca, NY, 2017. Softcover – 130 pp. $9.95 (ISBN 9781513626277. Available from Amazon.

The authors of this up-to-date book combine their skills of astrological forecasting and data macro-analysis.  The Astrologer, Linda Schurman, is a long-time forecaster with experience in corporations and financial service companies. (TMA readers may be familiar with her monthly newsletter posted on her website, soothesayer.com.)  The Analyst, Richard Spitzer, worked for many years as an executive in global business firms, and has developed a new “predictive analytics” methodology for macroeconomic trends.”  They are each steeped in their respective fields, cognizant of, and undaunted by multiple global challenges (including the overwhelming “speed, volume, diversity, and contradiction of information and the behavior of our institutions” – e.g., “fake news”).

The book is divided into chapters on each of the six most critical issues facing us, based on “the highest-level types of decision-choices model,” i.e. economics, information, technology, energy, environment, and human consciousness.  “We believe the threats are real and the consequences may be irreversible.  Our goal is to reawaken awareness of the issues and suggest how to find solutions.”

The Analyst writes on each subject from the macro-level of trends and challenges; the Astrologer writes on historical and current planetary cycles, e.g., the U.S. Pluto return, Uranus in Taurus, the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius, and outer-planet ingresses into new signs (2024-26).

In the concluding chapter, “Practical Realities We Need to Face, Choices We Need to Make,” the authors write: “Our book is one of many voices trying to raise awareness and offer solutions for the many challenges.”  Their work is an especially clear, extremely informative, and grounded contribution to that endeavor.
